There aren’t too many similarities between my role as a Member of Congress and my previous experience as a mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter. The hours are different, and my “work clothes” are definitely different.
But one thing is absolutely the same: all the prep work you do in the lead-up to the night you find out whether you’re going to win or lose — that’s what determines the outcome.
When I first ran for Congress in 2018, our campaign was what you might call “scrappy” — we relied heavily on our grassroots supporters and volunteers to take on an entrenched GOP opponent who had held the seat for 8 years and who was breaking Kansas fundraising records.
But thanks to the dedication of scrappy fighters like you, we managed to out-raise that incumbent and win our first election.
Now, with national Republicans targeting us for 2022 and the Kansas GOP actively working to gerrymander us out of Congress, we need to start preparing earlier than ever.
