Folks — Today, just like many of you, I am mourning with the family of George Floyd and the lives we’ve lost to police violence. As the family of George Floyd visits President Biden today, I am reiterating my call for the Senate to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act. It is our duty as lawmakers to put an end to the reign of terror our communities have endured at the hands of law enforcement. We must put an end to racial profiling at every level of law enforcement. We must ban chokeholds and no-knock warrants that stole the lives of Eric Garner, Breonna Taylor, and untold numbers of other people from us. We must end qualified immunity for police officers who act with impunity. Today, we remember the life of George Floyd on the one-year anniversary of his brutal murder. We must take our sorrow and turn it into action — action to stop these brutal murders from ever happening again and to hold police accountable when they use excessive force. Full stop. In solidarity, Yvette Clarke
