Dear John,
In recent weeks, Jews have been under attack.
Assaulted while advocating peacefully for Israel in Times Square. Harassed walking to synagogue in Brooklyn. Beaten while dining in LA. Targeted in Seattle, South Florida, and across the United States and around the world.
For more than two decades, antisemitism has been on the rise, first in Europe and other regions and, more recently, here in the United States. Yet too many have been inclined to look away or only call out anti-Jewish hate when it aligns with their political agenda or fits a certain narrative.
But antisemitism doesn’t lend itself to pithy soundbites and mustn’t be instrumentalized for partisan purposes. It is the world’s oldest hatred, and it has morphed and modernized, plaguing society in new and insidious ways. Indeed, the history of antisemitism shows that, left unchecked, it threatens Jews and non-Jews alike.
While the sources of antisemitism may be varied, the reaction from the world should be simple: outrage and action. But the silence is deafening.
We want to know: #WheresTheOutrage?
While we are grateful to those who have spoken up against antisemitism, too many have been silent or have couched their criticism in politically expedient ways.
Join American Jewish Committee (AJC) in speaking out and taking action against rising antisemitism:
SPEAK OUT:
Post on social media using the #WheresTheOutrage hashtag and graphic [link removed]. If you’d like, you can also click here to print the #WheresTheOutrage sign [link removed], take a picture with the sign, and post it on social media.
Tell us why you are speaking out against antisemitism at AJC.org/WheresTheOutrage [link removed]. Select responses will be shared on social media.
TAKE ACTION:
Call your elected officials (members of Congress, mayors, governors, etc.) to urge them to speak out against antisemitism, if they have not already done so.
Write or call your local newspaper, television station, radio network, or news website to urge coverage of antisemitic attacks in the U.S. and in your area.
Reach out to non-Jewish organizations and partners with which you are affiliated and ask them to publicly support the Jewish community at this time.
There can be no excuses, no rationalization, and no legitimization. Antisemitism is unacceptable. Period.
Join us in making this point loud and clear! [link removed]
Appreciatively,
