Across the country and around the world, the U.S. Capitol is recognized as a symbol of democracy.
But on January 6th, rioters incited by Donald Trump and his Big Lie of 2020 election fraud stormed the Capitol building, threatening the very democracy the building represents and leaving five dead in their wake.
As a member of Congress, it is my duty to protect our country from all enemies, foreign and domestic. Last week, I took action in voting to pass two bills that would jumpstart efforts to investigate the January 6th attack at the Capitol and initiate steps to ensure it never happens again.
Mitch McConnell and many Washington Republicans have made it clear they plan to oppose our efforts to investigate the January 6th attack, prioritizing their loyalty to Trump over their loyalty to our country and democracy. We all must raise our voices and demand better -- add your name to mine and tell the Senate to take action to protect our country from future attacks on our democracy. [[link removed]]
The first bill would establish an independent, impartial, 9/11-style commission to investigate the January 6th attack and make recommendations for how to prevent future attacks like it.
And the second bill would provide emergency funding to address security vulnerabilities exposed by the attack to make us more prepared and resilient going forward.
We owe it to the victims of the Capitol attack to ensure January 6th never happens again. Add your name to mine and demand the Senate take action on these measures to prevent future attacks on our democracy. [[link removed]]
