Dear John, Children everywhere have had their education impacted by the pandemic. School closures caused a shocking 90% of the global student population to miss out on critical time in school. Many have still not returned. Girls in many countries are much more affected than boys. Girls who aren’t in school are at increased risk of exploitation, adolescent pregnancy and early and forced marriage. Refugee girls and girls who live in war-torn countries are at even higher risk. You have a chance to change this, John. In June, President Biden will attend a meeting with other world leaders, and the future of education is on the agenda. Send a message to President Biden to support the Global Partnership for Education, a major effort to help get children around the world back to school. We are asking President Biden to commit to funding the Global Partnership for Education over a 5-year period. That will make a huge difference for girls like Haouaou*, age 17. She wants to be a nurse when she grows up, because there aren’t many female nurses in her area of Niger. But her dream can only come true if she can stay in school and get the education she deserves. She’s afraid she will be forced to marry if she can’t complete her education. This is a global education emergency. School is a lifeline for children – especially girls. We need to ensure that world leaders commit to robust funding for girls like Haouaou and this entire generation of children. Send a message to President Biden urging him to educate and protect girls around the world. Thank you for being a voice for kids, |
