RELIGIOUS FREEDOM IS NOT A LICENSE TO DISCRIMINATE

Friend,
I just left a rally with AU’s allies at the Supreme Court, where arguments were heard in three significant cases that could determine the rights of LGBTQ people for years to come.
As I told the crowd gathered there, we are governed by shared secular values in America, not the privileged religious views of some. But that’s not the America Aimee Stephens lives in. Aimee’s boss says he gets to fire her because her decision to be true to herself as a transgender woman contradicted his religious beliefs. And it’s not the America that Donald Zarda and Gerald Bostock experienced either. They were both fired for being gay.
In these three cases, the Supreme Court will decide if firing people for being LGBTQ is a violation of Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. If they rule that it is not, religious extremists will continue to succeed at stripping away critical non-discrimination protections for LGBTQ people nationwide in the name of “religious freedom.”
We are rallying to solidify these protections for LGBTQ people because NO exercise of religion should cause harm to others. If you’re with us, click here to sign your name to our petition now and make your voice heard!

The bottom line is, in America, no one should be denied or fired from a job because of who they are, who they love or what they believe.
Thank you for taking action today.
