John -- We are currently almost halfway through our annual Spring Redistribution Pledge and Membership Drive, and it’s an important time for all of us to make clear and firm commitments to the world we need and the organizing that will get us there. Check out the Redistribution Pledge and our ***upcoming webinar this Wednesday,*** "Get to Work on the Redistribution Pledge" to ask questions like, "What amount do I feel challenged to redistribute now?" and "Where can I be leveling up my redistribution?" and "How do I just START?" Last year, our members pledged $68 million to social justice movements. This year, we know that we can reach that same number before the year is half over. As of today, we have collectively pledged $48.6 million to liberation for 2021, but only 573 of us have signed the pledge this year. If you haven’t already, it’s time for you to sign, and make your redistribution commitment.
Across the globe, from Palestine to Columbia to India to our own neighborhoods, we are seeing the devastating impacts of state violence, wealth inequality, rising facism, and settler colonialism intersecting with the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic. In times of hardship, it can be difficult to access our boldest imaginations, but I want to ask you a question, and I hope you spend a minute really being present with it: What would become possible for our movements and in our world if all 1200+ RG dues-paying members committed to redistribution this year? What would become possible if our entire extended network of young people with wealth committed at least 7% of their assets or excess income to the powerful global organizing happening right now for collective liberation? For those of you who already have a plan about how you will move money to movements this year, will you take 5 minutes to sign the pledge? Signing is a way to commit to accountability to yourself, this community, and our movements (plus you get reminder emails to help you follow through!) AND it helps us measure our collective impact which is an important part of building power.
We know that our community is serious about redistribution -- and that you do so much to follow through on that commitment through giving to social justice movements, organizing your families and networks, and throwing down on campaigns for structural redistribution. Alongside everything else you may be doing to fight for a just and free future, make a redistribution plan, sign the Redistribution Pledge, join or renew your RG membership, and commit to the equitable distribution of land, wealth, and power in our lifetimes.
