We are just over one week away from one of the first special elections since 2020. In New Mexico's First District, Democrat Melanie Stansbury is running to fill the seat vacated by Secretary Deb Haaland. This election will be consequential and set the tone for 2022, so I wanted to tell you a little bit about Melanie and why she needs our support.

Melanie was a science educator, before delving into complex land and water issues, and becoming the first woman elected to represent New Mexico's 28th District in the state legislature. She has spent her career fighting for a more just and sustainable future, and now she's running for Congress to continue fighting for New Mexicans in D.C.

With Democrats holding a slim five-seat majority in the House, it's crucial that we win this race. But special elections typically favor the party out of the White House and the last time NM-01 held a special election, it was won by a Republican. Melanie needs our support right away to ensure she has the resources to take on her Republican opponent and win this election.
