John—
Xenophobia, racism, discrimination, unjustifiable waiting periods, and policy barriers intentionally designed to push needed care out of reach mean that immigrants must navigate a patchwork of care that often forces them to pay out of pocket for basic health services — including contraceptive care, maternity care, and preventive sexual and reproductive healthcare services.
We need bold and impactful legislation that expands access to the basic care that immigrant families need and deserve, and that starts with the Health Equity and Access under the Law (HEAL) for Immigrant Families Act.
Tell your representative in Congress to cosponsor the HEAL for Immigrant Families Act and remove unnecessary barriers to healthcare access >>
The Trump administration spent the last four years relentlessly working to strip away the dignity of immigrant families and incite anti-immigrant violence. Now, with this new administration, we can take bold action to protect reproductive freedom for immigrant families.
Make no mistake: Policies that deny immigrants access to essential and life-saving healthcare because of their immigration status are rooted in racism. They disproportionately harm Black, Latinx, Asian, Pacific Islander, and other immigrants of color, and they contribute to persistent inequities in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of health conditions.
The HEAL Act, introduced by Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA), Rep. Nanette Barragan (D-CA), and Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), would remove political interference and restore coverage so immigrants in the United States can participate in healthcare programs like Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). It would also allow undocumented immigrants to purchase insurance through the Affordable Care Act exchanges, and ensure access to health coverage for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients.
Tell your representative to cosponsor the HEAL Act and ensure every individual, regardless of their immigration status, can access the care they need.
Thank you for fighting for reproductive freedom.
