Dear friend,
Since February, I’ve been traveling Florida listening to my fellow Democrats about how we can re-energize ahead of the 2022 elections. And I’ve been so grateful to all the Floridians who have reached out to me over the last few months encouraging me to run for Senate.
It’s clear that our current representation is failing Florida. Both Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott have repeatedly put their own interests ahead of the people of Florida.
I’ve won every single race I’ve run, including a primary and tough generals in one of the toughest seats in the country. And I’ve seen we’ve had too many close losses in Florida. The reality is that Marco Rubio will not be an easy opponent, especially on the heels of a bruising primary where Democrats spend millions attacking each other, instead of using those millions to build the infrastructure and voter registration efforts we desperately need to win.
So that is why I have decided that instead of running for U.S. Senate in 2022, my experience winning in one of the toughest seats in the country will be best used helping to make our party stronger.
While I won’t be running for the Senate this year, I will be working to help our Democratic Party build towards statewide success. And I know that we must start now, with unity, if we want to win in 2022 and build a party strong enough to put the White House, a Senate seat, and more state and local races in play in 2024.
