John,
One year ago, George Floyd changed the world.
George Floyd was more than a hashtag. He was more than a video. He was more than his 28 final cries of, “I can’t breathe”.
George Floyd was a father, a brother, a son, a friend, and most importantly, a Black man in America who had the right to live.
Massive demonstrations in the wake of Floyd’s murder penetrated the collective consciousness so deeply that it resulted in unprecedented rates of voter registration, tens of millions of dollars in donations to grassroots advocacy organizations, and bold demands for politicians to turn the protests in our streets into action and real reforms to policing in America.
It is our duty to maintain that pressure, and there is still much work to be done. Our Empathy Network leader, Leslie E. Redmond, has been working with members of her Minneapolis community to fight for these issues and create transformative change in Minnesota.
Here are three things you can do right now to honor George Floyd’s memory, support activists on the ground in Minnesota, and keep the momentum going.
✊🏿 Uplift the work of our Minnesota Empathy Network organizer Leslie Redmond and support her fundraising page for the community “Activation Bus” fighting for restorative justice: [link removed]
✊🏿 Join the Virtual Day of Action hosted by the George Floyd Memorial Foundation: [link removed]
✊🏿 Join our Virtual State of JUSTICE Town Hall in June to help us shape campaigns to pass federal, state, and local criminal justice reform: [link removed]
All of Dream Corps JUSTICE’s campaigns are led by people who have been impacted by the criminal legal system and are ready to change it. Together with organizers like Leslie and our Empathy Network members we can champion solutions that transform justice in America.
Thank you for standing with us.
