May Chapter Meeting Report
|
Thank you to the members who joined our chapter meeting on Saturday! We heard reports from around the chapter about some of our ongoing projects and ways to get involved. Below is a summary of the rest of what happened!
We began the "business" section with the announcement that multiple parties who had been in conflict regarding the previously-proposed bylaws amendment on caucuses had jointly agreed to withdraw that proposal from the floor and attempt to work together in future months to work towards a compromise vision.
Then we came to a proposal for a bylaws amendment regarding voting policies. As discussion on this item began, members pointed out that the meeting did not have quorum for altering bylaws. (That means there weren't enough people present for this type of important decision to be made). At this point, the meeting ended early.
If any members are interested in joining the chapter's event's team and helping to produce and promote chapter meetings, please respond to this email! We are also looking forward to the support of all members in helping to spread the word about future chapterwide meetings.

SAVE THE DATE: Local Chapter, National Org - How does DSA Los Angeles fit into the overall vision of DSA?
|
Saturday, June 5 @ 11:00 AM
|
Learn about the national dimension of our local organization, hearing from speakers involved in national work. We'll also have speaking and Q&A time with a few local members who are seeking the chapter's endorsement to run for National Political Committee.
|
Members interested in running for NPC?
|
DSA-LA members who are interested in seeking the chapter's endorsement to run for NPC should register their interest with Steering Committee by emailing [email protected]
Steering Committee will allow any such members speaking time in a designated "NPC Elections" segment at the upcoming "Local Chapter, National Org" event advertised above. Following the event, ballots will be sent to all members for a period of 1 week.
The purpose of the vote, according to convention rules, is primarily for members to verify that the candidate should be eligible to run and should not be considered to be disqualified for any reason. It is an endorsement of the fact that they are a known and respected member of the chapter, regardless of whether or not their political tendency aligns with all members.

Comrades! We are going to the offices of Amazon shareholders just days before their annual shareholders meeting to make our voices heard and demand accountability from Amazon and justice for the workers. LA Labor and community will be demanding safe working conditions for the thousands of Amazon warehouse workers in California.
DSA-LA has endorsed the important legislative work being done for CA Assembly Bill 701, which will improve working conditions for Amazon warehouse workers. Still, we need to force Amazon to take action and change conditions now. Join us in this fight!

Thursday, May 27 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
|
The workers at Food 4 Less have been in contract negotiations for months with Kroger (parent company of Food 4 Less). Kroger refuses to meet the workers’ demands so they are escalating their efforts to win a just contract. Workers are calling for our solidarity and boycott!
We will be setting up a boycott picket line at the store and asking customers to respect the line and not shop at the store.
Make sure to wear DSA gear or red, and wear a mask.
