Vaccinations are the strongest tool to put Covid behind us

**A message from City Council Leader, Cllr David Mellen:**

Cllr David Mellen, leader of Nottingham City Council

We desperately want to see our city continue to unlock from the Covid restrictions we?ve all lived with for more than a year now. We have just had the first weekend under step 3 of the roadmap when people were able to safely enjoy many of the things we love about our city. I?m pleased that people overwhelmingly continue to play their part to stop the spread of Covid by continuing to clean their hands, wear face coverings and keep their distance ? as well as staying outdoors or in ventilated rooms wherever that?s possible.

This, along with regular testing and vaccinations, is our best way forward. Anyone aged over 32 can now book their vaccination through the NHS website and I urge everyone eligible to take up that offer as soon as your turn comes around. Those aged 40-49 now no longer need an appointment ? they can simply turn up at a vaccination centre to receive their jab. We understand that there may be valid reasons for people to be a little unsure or hesitant about having the jab, but anyone who declined to be vaccinated before hasn?t missed their opportunity. There is still chance to book an appointment at one of the many sites around the city. The NHS currently has a good stock of the vaccine ? plenty for everyone in our city who is eligible.

Let?s all work together to keep each other safe and protected so that we can move forward out of this pandemic. [ [link removed] ]

*Book your tickets for a day out at Nottingham Castle*

Nottingham Castle

Today is a day we?ve been looking forward to for a long time ? the chance for people to be able to book tickets to visit Nottingham Castle again. The City Council has overseen the historic site?s dramatic redevelopment over the past three years using Heritage Lottery funding - a huge achievement to complete the project on budget and on time despite the Covid pandemic.

It?s exciting that people can now book their place to see the fantastic changes that have taken place and will soon be able to enjoy a wonderful day out exploring the grounds, caves and new galleries and experience 1,000 years of the site?s history.

There is also the added attraction of the castle?s first major exhibition since its redevelopment being announced as ?Hello, My Name is Paul Smith,? a fascinating retrospective on one of Nottingham?s internationally renowned sons. More here [ [link removed] ]

Good progress and potential at Island Quarter

Island quarter groundbreaking

I was pleased to visit the Island Quarter today to see progress so far and get an insight into what the developers Conygar have in mind for the whole site. It was great to see how the Canal Turn development is taking shape and to get a sense of the scale and potential for the area. Conygar has some really exciting ideas for what is a huge site which will become a significant new destination as it develops. It?s pleasing to see green areas at the heart of the plans creating public spaces, and good routes for pedestrians and cyclists - helping to strengthen connections between outlying areas and the city centre.

The mixture of proposed developments for The Island Quarter will really complement what?s going on elsewhere in the Southside area, reanimating this part of the city as a place to live, work and play. It?s transformative developments like these that put Nottingham in a strong position to bounce back from the pandemic and forge a bright future. More here [ [link removed] ]

More Landlords needed to help find homes for homeless people in Nottingham

NPRAS

Landlords are being encouraged to join a free council scheme that supports them to find homes for homeless individuals and families in Nottingham. Landlords who may have an empty home or space for a new tenancy, are being encourage to get in touch with the Council?s Nottingham Private Rented Assistance Scheme (NPRAS) to help give people a home. The scheme aims to reduce the number of Nottingham families at risk of homelessness.

NPRAS works with individuals and families to find them homes to rent, many of whom have found themselves homeless through no fault of their own. In the last year, local landlords have helped NPRAS to house 409 homeless households in the city.

There are lots of free benefits to landlords who sign up to the service and there is a webinar event happening on Wednesday 23 June for landlords to find out more information. More details on the scheme and the event can be found here [ [link removed] ]
