Biden Signs The COVID-19 Hate Crimes Bill As Anti-Asian American Attacks Rise

Dear John,
May is Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month. While it's important for us to condemn discrimination against members of the AAPI community every month, it is especially important this month -- and this year.
That's why I was so glad to see President Biden sign the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act into law last week. I was proud to help pass this bill in the Senate -- where nearly every single senator voted in favor of this crucial legislation. This law will make reporting hate crimes more accessible and direct the Department of Justice to designate a point person to expedite the review of hate crimes related to COVID-19.
I wish it weren't necessary to pass this legislation, but this past year we've seen a dramatic rise in anti-AAPI violence and discrimination. These reprehensible attacks have no place in our country, and it's critical we take bold action to stop them. It's on all of us to speak out and demand an end to anti-AAPI hatred.
Members of the AAPI community are integral to the success of our country and make us the great nation that we are. This month, and every month, we must celebrate the AAPI community and stand up for their rights.
Thank you,
Chris
