What to read and research before Dreamland's premiere

In the new CNN Film Dreamland: The Burning of Black Wall Street, director Salima Koroma shows us how present-day Tulsa residents are seeking reconciliation and accountability for the century-old tragedy of the Greenwood massacre. The film blends archival media, animation, narrated letters, diary entries and contemporary interviews for a thorough investigation of a crime that left an indelible mark on the community.

Black Tech Street founder Tyrance Billingsley II is one member of that community who’s passionate about rebuilding the Greenwood District. Read Billingsley’s plan to create a modern-day version of Black Wall Street here, and then settle in for this incredible story of a massacre survivor  who escaped to Chicago and built a new family legacy of success. We're honored to share an exclusive Q&A with Lisa Ling, host and executive producer of CNN Original Series This is Life. As a journalist and an activist, Asian Pacific American Heritage Month hit differently this year. Read on to learn how Ling is celebrating and educating in May. 

• How are you celebrating AAPI this year? I am celebrating APAHM this year by trying to educate myself and others on AAPI history. Our history has been largely forgotten and erased from history books. Asians have contributed greatly to the development of this country, built essential infrastructure and added to the rich fabric of the US. We are the most vast and diverse diaspora with unique cultures, traditions, languages and food. And I might add, that Asian food is the best! I will be consuming much of it this month in celebration of APAPM.
• How can we all support the AAPI community right now? Get to know us, learn our history. Recognize that AAPI history is American history. 
• Where are you finding joy? I am finding joy in watching my community rise up and speak out. There is an awakening that is happening that was born out of crisis, but one that we will not allow to be squelched.
