Ehud Barak has been one of Israel's leading voices in the struggle to achieve a two-state solution and remains one of the most vocal opponents of creeping annexation.
A prominent critic of the Netanyahu government, Barak forged a progressive alliance during the past election which put forward a positive vision for engaging the Palestinians and working toward a lasting peace.
The former prime minister is the latest addition to a speaker list which includes prominent Israeli politicians like Joint List Leader Ayman Odeh and Democratic Union Leader Nitzan Horowitz.
