We're so grateful for your support. Thanks to you, we accomplished something incredibly important this past week. We passed the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act and sent a message that anti-Asian hate will not be tolerated in America.
The bill, which was already approved by the Senate, passed 364-62 in the House and was signed into law by President Biden last week. With its enactment, the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act will give extra resources to all levels of law enforcement to investigate and prosecute anti-Asian hate crimes.
Once again, we see that elections matter. Without electing AAPI leaders who fought to make this bill a priority, it may never have been written. And without electing Democrats who are allies to the AAPI community, it likely would never have even gotten a vote. You did this, John, and we can't thank you enough.
But there is still more work to be done. 62 Republican members of the House and Sen. Josh Hawley voted against this bill. Despite the bipartisan nature of this bill, we've seen time and time again when Republicans are in power, they fall in line with the most right-wing, extreme views of their party.
