Last week, ahead of the 100th anniversary of the 1921 Tulsa Massacre, the three living survivors spoke before the House Judiciary Committee, asking the country to finally officially acknowledge the horrifying events that took place that day. 

Systemic racism is still present in America. Violence against people of color continues to occur. Inequities within our medical care system have resulted in communities of color being hit the hardest by the pandemic. John, we have to take action. Justice for those who survived what happened on May 31, 1921 is just a start.

An estimated 300 Black Americans were killed in the 1921 massacre. Greenwood, a Tulsa neighborhood, was once a thriving community previously dubbed “Black Wall Street.” After the massacre, the city didn’t dedicate sufficient resources to rebuilding it.
