Hi John,

It’s been a year of stark contrasts in our country; from a profound reckoning with consistent police violence and the fight for racial justice, to record-breaking voter turnout defying all odds. We’ve felt the sting of racist systems, and seen the power of the American people to rise up, cast ballots, and demand change.

Through it all, two truths remain: Black lives, and our foundational right to vote, are gravely threatened.

On June 19,1865 -- after years denying the validity of the Emancipation Proclamation in the state of Texas -- enslaved Americans in Galveston, Texas were liberated by federal troops. Known as Juneteenth, the 19th of June asks of us both to hold deep reflection of an unjust past, and hopeful celebration of those who fought for justice before us and for the culture and fortitude of Black Americans.

This Juneteenth is a call to acknowledge that our work isn’t over, and we’re calling on you to join us as we fight to protect Black lives, Black voices, and Black votes.

To commemorate Juneteenth, When We All Vote will hold a Juneteenth Weekend of Action from Thursday, June 17 - Sunday, June 20. We’re asking YOU to join us to help register those in our community by organizing COVID-conscious voter registration drives at local Juneteenth celebrations, family gatherings, and community spaces. No matter what you’re doing that weekend, you can incorporate registering voters into your plans -- and we’ll make it easy.

To get the resources you need to get started, join us for our volunteer call at 7pm ET on Thursday, May 27 to prepare for our Juneteenth Weekend of Action.

We know the path is long, but like the subtle arc of the earth we share, rest assured that time bends toward justice.

I’ll see you at our training and thank you for being with us on our journey to make our democracy fair, equitable, and just.

See you soon,
Stephanie
