Friend — last week, we reached out with news that Rep. Lauren Boebert, who has supported QAnon conspiracies and has ties to militia groups, introduced the 30 x 30 Termination Act.
The bill is designed to scrap the Biden administration's 30 by 30 plan — an effort to work collaboratively with local communities to double the amount of protected land in the US. It's quickly picking up support from other like-minded members in the House.
Since we reached out, the response from the environmental movement has been incredible. Folks from all over the country have been pitching in to help fight back.
What we do next matters, friend. The 30 by 30 plan is truly one of the most important environmental initiatives in decades. It represents a real shot at ensuring everyone in this country has access to green spaces, regardless of race or zip code.
We're campaigning like hell to make sure people like Lauren Boebert don't derail the plan. And we're asking: Are you in? A group of donors is triple matching every contribution to our campaigns through the end of the month.
If you ARE in a position to pitch in right now, a group of donors has put up a match fund to triple every contribution through the end of the month. Even $5 is enough to make a difference »
If you are NOT in a position to pitch in financially — can we ask you to do one quick thing instead? Just click here to let us know, and we'll stop asking for now »
So far in May, we've raised over $80,000 to fund environmental campaigns that fight for land conservation, environmental justice, and clean energy.
That's huge.
Friend — I hope you'll help us hit that goal. The 30 by 30 plan will conserve 30 percent of the lands, waters, and ocean in our country by 2030. Scientists argue that these targets are absolutely essential to getting climate change under control and preventing mass wildlife extinctions while reducing disparities in who has access to nature and who doesn't.
We're pushing forward, regardless of the hurdles people like Rep. Boebert are throwing up. Already, legislatures and governors in states like South Carolina, Hawaii, Michigan, Nevada, New York, California, and Maine have plans on the table to help meet the goals in their states.
This has huge implications. Right now, all eyes are on what will happen with Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante monuments as well as the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts. Bears Ears represents critical sacred, cultural, and natural heritage for many tribal communities. Five tribes — the Navajo, the Hopi, the Ute Mountain Ute, the Ute Indian Tribe of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation, and the Pueblo of Zuni — have led the fight to protect these sacred spaces from Big Polluters.
These are areas that Trump gutted protections for. Since Trump rolled back protections for these monuments, fossils and remnants of Native American settlements have been vandalized. Graffiti has been scribbled over ancient rock art. They've been opened up to the threat of mining.
We're pushing to make sure that Biden follows through on his commitment to restore protections for these areas as part of the 30 by 30 plan.
Friend, are you on board? We've set a $100,000 fundraising goal before the end of May, and a group of donors has agreed to triple every contribution. We're asking:
Pitch in. Triple your impact. This fight is too important to miss. Even $5 helps »
THANK YOU, friend. Let's win this.
