The Senate filibuster could create a massive roadblock for one of our longest-running legislative efforts to ensure equal rights in our country.
The Equal Rights Amendment – after passing almost 50 years ago by Congress and recently receiving the threshold needed for state ratification – is now facing fierce right-wing opposition to this commonsense and much needed measure that would enshrine equal rights into the Constitution.
We need you to act now and declare your support for the ERA!
The biggest hurdle the ERA currently faces is a time limit on ratification that was placed by the amendment’s opponents. In March of this year, under the leadership of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the House passed a Resolution to remove the time limit blocking the ERA from being added to the Constitution. This Resolution is now pending in the Senate.
A bipartisan majority of 52 Senators are on record supporting removing the time limit. But a Mitch McConnell-led filibuster in the Senate – which takes the votes of 60 Senators to end – could derail our efforts to secure a vote on the Senate floor.
We must ensure the ERA will not be stopped by the Senate filibuster.
