Last week I travelled to the beautiful constituency of Chesham and Amersham to launch Alex Wilson, our candidate for the upcoming by-election.

Today, I’m writing to ask you to join me and my deputy, David Bull, on Saturday for our first big action day.

The resting place of Roald Dahl has been beset over recent years by the planned imposition of the HS2 line, much to the upset, frustration and anger of local residents.

HS2 is out of control. Its budget has spiralled, its environmental impact is staggering and its economic case remains unproven. Any benefits from the project are concentrated in the very few cities with stations, while the rest of the country picks up the bill both financially and environmentally.

All of the main parties support HS2, as shown by the promises made in their 2019 and 2017 General Election manifestos. Only Reform UK is against HS2 both in principle and practice.

Alex Wilson is the perfect man to lead our campaign in the constituency as he once worked for HS2 Ltd and so has seen the wasteful bureaucracy and incompetence from the inside. His campaign has already had a great start and we’ve rarely seen more positivity on the doorsteps when introducing ourselves to local voters. Our job now is to try to talk to as many of them as we can over the next four weeks.

David and I will be there to meet you on Saturday (29th May) at 11am. We’re planning a day of fun, positivity and great campaigning. This really will be our first opportunity in a very long time to come together properly, so I hope you’ll feel able to join us. We will have doors to knock on, street stalls to help with and leaflets to deliver. There really will be something for everybody to do.

Our summer plans to build and structure our party are very much on course and a strong campaign in this by-election will be crucial in demonstrating our commitment to holding the Tories to account, in what is increasingly becoming a one party state.
