Dear Friend,
Wanted to make sure you are aware that local power authorities are warning of potential Public Safety Power Shutoffs for many areas across our region in the coming days. These shutoffs occur during weather events where the risk of fire is increased, such as Red Flag Warnings, low relative humidity, and high winds. You can click here to learn more about conditions that lead to shutoffs.
In case of a shutoff, you can expect an early warning from power authorities and in this case, we hope to know sometime today when and where they will occur. Work crews will be inspecting power lines to ensure they are safe, and the authorities will provide updates through local news, online, and on social media. Be sure to follow me on Facebook and Twitter where I will be posting updates as they are available.
If a shutoff does occur, you should be sure to have emergency supplies to last several days. Stock up now and be sure your checklist includes the following:
- A basic first aid kid,
- Food that is non-perishable and easy to prepare without power,
- Medication and eyeglasses,
- Your cell phone and a portable charger,
- Batteries in various sizes,
- A drinking water reserve that has one gallon of water per person, per day,
- Tools and utensils such as can openers and silverware,
- A radio that is batter-powered, and
- A flashlight (do not use candles).
Make sure to sign up for emergency alerts from the power authorities by clicking here and from Nixle, which includes updates from local government and public safety authorities, by clicking here. As always, if you have a question or concern, please don’t hesitate to call my office. |

Sincerely,
