“Texas Population Boom Should Help Democrats, But GOP Still Draws Voting Boundaries”
-- Texas Standard |
|
Here's the deal, John: Texas is the only state to be gaining two congressional seats as a result of apportionment, and it's largely due to the migration of Latinx and Black folks. But if Texas Republicans have their way, those population gains will be used to bolster the political power of conservative and white communities.
Instead of drawing fair maps to give new Texans the representation they deserve, the GOP is planning to gerrymander. We know this because they've admitted it:
Republicans should "not concern themselves with fairness" in redistricting
-- Texas GOP Chair Allen West
Here's how we’re fighting back:
- We’re engaging the public in the redistricting process and emphasizing the urgent need for fairness and transparency
- We’re analyzing proposed maps with our in-house team of experts
- We’re making sure Republicans know they will be held accountable for their actions during redistricting
- We’re supporting plaintiffs in lawsuits to protect the redistricting process from manipulation
But doing all that work in 16 battleground states and around the country won't be easy, so we need your support -- URGENTLY. Will you pitch in now to help us demand fairness?
