Friend --
Peter Thiel is bringing his billions to the table to help elect Republicans in 2022.
The Silicon Valley billionaire has taken a particular interest in the Senate, where Democrats are deadlocked with the GOP at 50-50. He's already donated $10 million apiece to super PACs supporting far-right candidates in Ohio and Arizona, two states that are absolutely crucial to Democratic hopes of holding the Senate and expanding our majority.
That kind of money can single-handedly make a no-name, extremist candidate a serious contender.
Given Thiel's right-wing populist politics, that means that we can expect more candidates like Josh Hawley, who Thiel contributed to in the past and who is now one of the most prominent insurrectionist-supporting voices in the country.
And let's not lose sight of the bigger political picture. If Democrats lose a single seat in the Senate, President Biden will have to start negotiating with Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, the self-appointed Grim Reaper of the Senate.
Democrats need to do two things to fight back. First, we need to pass the For the People Act as soon as possible. This bill is full of reforms to our democracy that would lessen the influence of deep-pocketed donors like Thiel.
Second, we need to be ready for the onslaught of dark money from Thiel and other billionaires in 2022. That's where we need your help today.
