Friend, in the time it takes you to read this email, a garbage truck's worth of plastic will be dumped into the ocean.
If companies like Whole Foods don't do their part and take decisive action against the plastic pollution crisis, the amount of plastic waste polluting our communities will only grow.
But in 2020, Whole Foods received an "F" grade on reducing plastic waste. It's time for the company to do better.
Send a message directly to Whole Foods today to urge the company to take single-use plastic packaging off its shelves.

Thank you for taking action,

Friend,
Wasteful plastic is everywhere -- including on the shelves of Whole Foods, a grocery chain that advertises itself as environmentally responsible.[1] There's nothing responsible about contributing to a plastics problem that dumps a garbage truck's worth of plastic waste into the ocean every 30 seconds.[2]
If companies like Whole Foods don't do their part and take decisive action against the plastic pollution crisis, the amount of plastic waste polluting our communities will only grow. We must convince the company to do the right thing and reduce its use of plastic in its stores.
With a Whole Foods board meeting coming up on May 26, now is the perfect time to speak up for meaningful change in the company's practices.
Send a message directly to Whole Foods today to urge the company to take single-use plastic packaging off its shelves.

Whole Foods was once a leader in cutting out unnecessary plastic, eliminating plastic bags at checkout in 2008 and removing plastic straws from its stores in 2019.[3] But then things changed: In 2020, Whole Foods received an "F" grade on reducing plastic waste.[4]
Why? The company has failed to embrace reusable packaging and recycled content. It hasn't been transparent about the packaging materials it does use, and it has failed to take responsibility for the plastic waste its packaging becomes.[5]
It's clear that Whole Foods has a long way to go to reach true sustainability -- but the good news is that Whole Foods can make a huge impact on this issue if it acts right now and sets an example on plastic waste reduction that others in the industry can follow.
Let Whole Foods know that you want it to reduce its use of harmful plastic packaging.

At U.S. PIRG, we know what it takes to get decision-makers to take action on plastic pollution. Our national network has won efforts in cities and states across the country to reduce waste, including pro-recycling laws and bans on some of the worst single-use items such as plastic bags and polystyrene foam containers. Now, we're turning our focus to include the corporations that produce and use all this plastic in the first place.
The advocacy of people like you is what makes it all possible. And as customers, we're uniquely poised to convince Whole Foods to make changes to protect our health and the planet. Together, we can convince Whole Foods to stop contributing to the plastic problem and become a part of the solution.
Send your message to Whole Foods today.
