And Senator Martha McSally (R-AZ) signed on as a co-sponsor to the bipartisan DETER Act, which will help combat foreign interference in our elections.

Foreign interference in our elections is a national emergency. We cannot afford to wait idly by while we know bad actors are ready and willing to further disrupt our democracy.

But there is good news: In a time of intense partisanship and divide, we’re making real progress on crucial bipartisan bills to protect our elections.

Momentum for the bipartisan Honest Ads Act — the best first step to secure our elections by preventing paid, foreign disinformation campaigns on the largest online platforms — continues to grow: Two new co-sponsors signed on to this bill — Republican Bill Posey (R-FL) and Democrat Abigail Spanberger (D-VA) — bringing the total sponsors to 19 Republicans and 20 Democrats.

Just a few days later, Senator Martha McSally (R-AZ) signed on as a co-sponsor to the bipartisan DETER Act which will help combat foreign interference in our elections and send a strong message to bad foreign actors: American elections are decided by Americans!

We must keep the momentum going! Tell Congress to act now on these and other critical election security measures to protect our democracy.

Both of these developments come on the heels of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell walking back his staunch opposition to election security legislation and expressing support for more funding to safeguard our elections.

And both bills are supported by Issue One’s “Don’t Mess With US” project. We launched Don’t Mess With US to fight against foreign interference and disinformation campaigns aimed at dividing Americans.
