News: Arms company accused of corruption pleads guilty

Last summer, thousands of emails from CAAT supporters ensured that a corruption case involving ‘GPT’ (now a subsidiary owned by Airbus SE) was cited as one of the first issues to cross the desk of incoming Attorney General Suella Braverman, the government’s chief legal adviser.

Thanks to your pressure, the Serious Fraud Office brought charges against GPT and three individuals in relation to £2 billion in alleged fraud, as part of a deal to supply the Saudi Arabian National Guard with telecoms equipment.

The Serious Fraud Office has now reported that GPT pleaded guilty, and the judge ordered the company to pay a confiscation order of £20.6 million, a fine of £7.5 million and costs of £2.2 million.

Criminal proceedings continue. Thank you once more for demanding justice and accountability over arms trade profits.

Take Action: Tell the ICC to open an investigation into whether arms companies aided and abetted war crimes

While millions of people are suffering the world’s worst humanitarian crisis in Yemen, British and other European arms makers are profiting from the export of weaponry and provision of training and support to the Saudi-led military coalition responsible for attacks on civilians.
