This past Wednesday, my House colleagues and I passed a bill to establish a 9/11-style commission to investigate the January 6 insurrection — an important step toward bringing to light all of the facts surrounding the who, what, where, and when of what truly happened on January 6.

The timing of this could not be more critical, because at this very moment, multiple GOP officials are trying to rewrite history. Over the past few weeks, Republicans have attempted to characterize the insurrection as a normal “tourist visit” carried out by “peaceful patriots.”

But here’s the deal: Now that the House has passed this bill to create the commission, it’s headed to the Senate. And Mitch McConnell and other GOP officials have rebuffed the idea of a commission to investigate the insurrection. 

With an evenly-divided Senate, it’s critical that we build support to make sure this bill passes so that a commission can begin its work as soon as possible.
