Three letters in the May issue continue the conversation about disability rights and health care.
Responses To ‘Physicians’ Perceptions Of People With Disability’
This February, Lisa Iezzoni and coauthors published a paper about physicians’ perceptions of people with disability and their health care.

Health Affairs published two response letters to Iezzoni in the May issue. In the first letter, twelve disability rights organizations advocate for adopting recommendations made by the National Council on Disability in 2019 after analysis of health care decision making and reliance on the quality-adjusted life-year. In the second, Arielle Isaacson and colleagues share how Harvard Medical School has integrated disability education into their curriculum.

In their response to these letters, Iezzoni and Eric Campbell applaud ongoing work but reiterate concerns about the “hidden curriculum” of medical education that reproduces unconscious biases within the medical community.

Today on Health Affairs Blog, Edward Salsberg and Candice Chen write about graduate medical education positions and physician supply continuing to increase. Also, Danielle Brooks and colleagues explore the term “low-value care.

Elevating Voices: Asian American and Pacific Islander American Heritage Month: Kavita Patel and colleagues in 2015 wrote about the importance of teaching consumers how to use health insurance.
