John – Thanks to the newly expanded Child Tax Credit as part of the American Rescue Plan, approximately 39 million American families will see critical tax relief soon. Almost 90% of American families with children will receive monthly payments of up to $300, starting in July.

The Child Tax Credit is part of the American Rescue Plan (ARP) that Jahana helped pass in March. In addition to providing another round of stimulus checks, enhanced federal unemployment benefits, funding for vaccine distribution and testing, and help for state and local governments, the Rescue Plan also expanded the Child Tax Credit.

The expansion of the Child Tax Credit will cut child poverty nearly in HALF. It will lift 7,300 children out of poverty in Connecticut’s Fifth District alone!

But this expansion is a temporary relief measure only, and that is why we need to keep people like Jahana in Congress – to ensure this type of support for families and children becomes permanent. John, do you agree that we need to make the expanded Child Tax Credit permanent?

The expanded Child Tax Credit boosts the existing tax benefit from $2,000 up to $3,600 for kids under 6 and $3,000 for kids aged 6-17.

This is a gamechanger for so many American families as they recover from the economic downturn and get back on their feet. But the need will not disappear when the pandemic settles. Families need our continued support to thrive.
