Hi there John,
Thanks to our generous supporters, we've been able to host various online cultural events throughout the past few months – and we still have more to come! These events are important steps in bringing our community together, celebrating our culture, and educating those around us.
In early March, NIAC Action launched our first Norooz 1400 event " Beholding Beauty: Exploring Desire, Sexuality, and Spirituality through Sa'di Shirazi [[link removed]] ," co-hosted by the NIAC Chicago, New York, and San Francisco chapters. The event celebrated the works of upcoming Iranian-American musicians while educating all generations in our community about how same-sex love and desire are part of our literary heritage.
In celebration of Norooz, NIAC hosted various events across the country to ring in the new year. In California, the NIAC San Francisco Bay Area chapter hosted a Persian cooking event [[link removed]] with renowned Chef Hoss Zaré as part of NIAC's Norooz 1400 series. Attendees got to learn modern techniques for Persian dishes while engaging in a discussion with Chef Hoss himself. The NIAC Los Angeles chapter welcomed Norooz with a memorable and vibrant celebration [[link removed]] of Norooz 1400: Welcoming the Light of the New Century . We got to hear from artists, musicians, philanthropists, and our keynote speaker, Dr. Khodadad Rezakhani of Leiden University.
In February, NIAC LA hosted a COVID Vaccine Town Hall [[link removed]] in Persian, open to members across the country. We got to hear from Dr. Farin Kamangar, Dr. Javad Aman, and Dr. Kamran Tabaddor and learn accurate and up-to-date information in Farsi about the COVID vaccine. This was a great opportunity for Farsi speakers to learn more about the COVID-19 vaccine.
If you missed these events, don't worry! We have multiple upcoming events in May! On May 27th NIAC's Colorado chapter is hosting a conversation [[link removed]] with Iranian American author Olivia Abtahi about her new young adult fiction book, Perfectly Parvin. This book explores high school drama, Iranian American culture, and the Muslim Ban through the eyes of 14-year-old Parvin Mohammadi.
We are also hosting, for the first time ever, an exclusive series of Open Mic Poetry and Storytelling nights! These will be held on the third Thursday of every month and are open only to NIAC chapter members, so make sure you sign up to become a chapter member [[link removed]?] of your local NIAC, if you aren't already. Join us to share your own work or to listen to some of our talented members. You won't want to miss this!
