This year, the Supreme Court will hear a case from the NRA that could pose a huge setback to our efforts to prevent tragic acts of gun violence in our communities.
For decades, the NRA has used its power, influence, and millions of dollars to block progress on gun safety in Washington. The NRA played a big role in Donald Trump’s victory in 2016, and now, there are three new Trump-appointed justices on the Supreme Court that will decide the upcoming case on guns.
There’s no doubt that we’re in for a tough fight, but we can’t give up. We’ve gone far too long without action on gun violence.
I voted to pass commonsense gun-safety legislation and I’m calling on the Senate to take action on it ASAP. Now, I’m looking for 10,000 grassroots supporters to join my call before We Wear Orange Weekend on June 4th, during which we make a public commitment to join together to encourage, support, and work toward solutions to save lives from gun violence. Will you add your name to mine?
While we’re in for a tough fight against gun violence, I want to be clear about something: This is a winnable fight.
The legislation I joined the House in passing would require background checks on all gun sales -- a commonsense measure that is supported by the vast majority of Americans.
And with President Biden in the White House and Democratic majorities in both chambers of Congress, we’re in a strong position to finally make this legislation the law of the land.
But we need to put pressure on the Senate to act. Add your name before June 4th and be one of the 10,000 people demanding the Senate take action to end gun violence in our communities.
Your friend,
Dutch
