Dear friend,
Last night, the Louisville Metro Council passed a safety zone protection ordinance that will make abortion access safer for people seeking care in Louisville, Kentucky.
This is a huge victory for local advocates and those seeking and providing care. EMW Women's Surgical Center in Louisville, the only Black-owned independent abortion provider in Kentucky, has long been a target of hostile protestors from across the region, who routinely threaten and harass patients and providers -- and have continued to do so even as the pandemic rages. NIRH is so proud to have worked closely with our partners on the ground, the Kentucky Health Justice Network, whose tireless work leading the Louisville Safety Zone committee made this passage a reality.

This safety zone is a significant step forward for Louisville and one example of NIRH’s advocacy on the local level. With the recent news that the Supreme Court will hear a case that offers a direct challenge Roe v. Wade, our work on the state and local levels is even more critical. Local governments have an opportunity and a responsibility to rise to the moment and meet the needs of city residents -- and we are ensuring they do just that.
Join us today to push forward this critical work: [link removed]
