"Our sherpas are known for sharing their oxygen with struggling climbers at high altitude. Today, Covid-19 is leaving our country breathless and so we are looking for the “sherpas” of the international community.
We are pleading with our friends around the world to urgently provide us with essential medical items, life-saving drugs and vaccines."
- KP Sharma Oli, Prime Minister of Nepal
How Womankind partners in Nepal are responding:
Our partners organisations in Nepal are no strangers to mobilsing in times of crisis. In the aftermath of the devastating earthquake in 2015, women’s rights activists mobilised their networks and began rapid response to their communities, saving countless lives.
This time it is no different. Partners Tewa and Feminist Dalit Organisation are providing financial assistance to local hospitals to secure vital oxygen supplies. As hospital staff are pushed to their limits, Women for Human Rights have mobilised volunteers to cook hot meals for overworked staff as well as serving food to COVID patients in eight government hospitals.
With state-sanctioned lockdown likely to continue for many weeks ahead, thousands of daily wage workers in Nepal will be without an income. Partners such as Mitini Nepal and Nepal Disabled Women's Association will be working to provide relief, such as food and PPE, to women at risk across Nepal.
As many of us tentatively emerge out of lockdown, we must not lose sight of our sisters and brothers in countries that continue to be impacted by this dreadful pandemic.
Womankind Worldwide is urgently raising funds to send directly to our ten partner organisations in Nepal. After distributing over £1.2m in COVID-19 resilience grants to partners last year we know that unrestricted, flexible funding is the best way to support in times of crisis. We trust partners to put funds to immediate use where they are needed most.
Could you make a life-saving donation to the emergency in Nepal?
100% of your donation will go directly to our long-standing partner organisations in Nepal.
Thank you in advance for your generosity and solidarity.
With warm wishes,
