John,
Earlier this morning, we started going through some of the initial results from our Defund the Police survey and noticed we’re missing your response. Thousands of supporters have already taken this survey and their responses have been incredibly insightful, but we really still want to know your opinion.
Cori is leading the way in Congress to end police brutality and the racist systems that have oppressed our communities for too long. She is challenging us to think beyond carceral systems of community safety that disproportionately criminalize Black, brown, indigenous, and other marginalized communities — and she’s pushing Congress to invest urgently in social services over systems of policing and incarceration.
Now, Cori’s getting ready to take more bold legislative action — but before we move forward — it’s really important to our team that we check in with our supporters and see where they stand on this critical issue.
We’ll be going through all of the responses tomorrow morning. We hope you can take a couple of minutes to send in your answers and help us come up with the strongest strategy possible to transform the future of safety in our communities.
In solidarity,
Team Cori

Subject: Do you support defunding the police in Washington?
To: John [[email protected]]
Enough is enough, John. We are sick and tired of police violence taking away the lives of our loved ones and community members.
It’s clear that it’s time to transform the way we envision public safety and the way we keep our cities and towns safe. More and more folks agree — the conversation around defunding the police has been gaining momentum all across the country.
Community organizing leaders like Cori have been on the forefront growing this movement and calling out for bold alternatives on how we approach safety. However, this momentum hasn’t gone unnoticed.
The GOP, police unions, and right-wing media groups have put leaders like Cori at the center of their attacks for supporting the call to defund the police. We refuse to let their attacks slow us down — it’s more important to us to know how much support we have behind our movement from folks like you, John.
That’s why today we’re asking: Do you support defunding the police in Washington? Let us know by taking our quick Defund the Police Survey today.
Cori has co-organized and co-led hundreds of protests alongside the amazing Ferguson frontline to call for the defense of Black lives and send a message that our lives matter.
She understands firsthand the pain of police violence — what it’s like to be brutalized on the ground just for saying your life matters — and the urgent need to keep our community members safe. That’s why Cori refuses to let Republican attacks slow down our work to transform public safety and defund the police in our communities.
Cori has always made it a priority to hear from her community members and supporters before taking big action steps. So today we want to check in with our supporters and hear honest feedback from you about the movement to defund the police.
Keep fighting,
Team Cori
