Mike Biggs, US Army Veteran

John, at 55 years old, it all caught up with me.

As a medic in the U.S. Army, I had experienced a lot of trauma. And, for my generation, PTSD did not exist as a diagnosis. As a military person, you just push through — you numb yourself to your emotions and feelings. But after decades of pushing my troubles aside, they all hit me:

Deep depression, anxiety, frustration, hypervigilance, anger.

I lost control … and eventually became homeless.

WATCH MY STORY

The sad reality is that I was just one of the thousands of veterans living on the streets on any given day. But it doesn’t have to be this way. DAV is committed to helping veterans overcome homelessness and get back on their feet. And with the help of DAV — and the love and support of my family — I was able to do just that.

Watch this video about my journey, and learn more about how, together, we can ensure no veteran has to end up on the streets.

Thank you for supporting DAV and helping me get back home.
