Friend --
Last week, Governor Newsom released
his budget revision announcing his plan to raise rent relief from 80%
to 100% of unpaid rent, for eligible California renters and landlords
behind due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
We’re still waiting on some details, but...THIS IS HUGE. If
approved by the legislature, It means we effectively cancelled rent
for low income California renters!
Spread the word: If
you *or anyone you know* is behind on rent or utilities for any amount
of time since the beginning of the pandemic, or unable to pay rent in
the coming months- apply for rent relief
TODAY!!!
If you’ve faced financial hardship due to COVID and your
income has been below 80% of the Area Median Income during the
pandemic, you are likely eligible!
We know that money is starting to
be distributed, but slowly, and we also know that if you already
applied for the 80% of relief you can still get the remaining funds
once the budget is passed. Either way, the sooner you
apply, the sooner you’ll be able to receive the funding.
Now
we must ensure that everyone that needs the relief gets it. Make sure
that you, your friends, and family who have rent debt from the
pandemic APPLY TODAY!
Over a year ago, when this pandemic
began, tens of thousands of renters came to ACCE saying they couldn’t
pay rent and joined the movement to get rent cancelled. After we all
made thousands of calls, signed petitions, plus lobby visits, twitter
storms, zoom conferences, and more, we have shown that when we build a
mass movement to win the impossible, we can do it!!!
Don’t wait for there to be a big back-log of
applications. Apply
for rent and/or utility relief now!
If you have not been impacted
personally by this pandemic but want to support our work bringing
relief to those who have, donate to ACCE today.
In solidarity,
Patricia Mendoza, ACCE Member San
Diego
