4. DEMAND THAT YOUR LOCAL LEADERS SPEAK OUT AGAINST THE RAPIDLY GROWING SCOURGE OF ANTISEMITISM
The Middle East War has come to the streets of the United States, Canada and Europe. As a result of a massive misinformation campaign waged by Israel’s enemies, American Jews have been under attack like never before. Earlier this week, a group of people dining outside at a restaurant on Wilshire Boulevard, near the Israeli consulate in Los Angeles, were physically assaulted by a caravan of people whose vans displayed the Palestinian flag, and some were wearing Palestinian Keffiyahs. They assaulted the diners using broken glass bottles, yelling out anti-Semitic slogans.
On May 19th, Jews were violently attacked on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.
Tweets have flourished, encouraging people to attack Jews, such as, “decolonize this place Israel New York,” and, “Wondering what to do in solidarity in the meantime? Find Zionist targets nearby, find where those Zionist fools live and where their offices are, and act!”
Orthodox Jews, in traditional garb, (the most visible Jews ), have been viciously attacked, just for walking down the street. In Chicago a synagogue was defaced with “Freedom for Palestine” posters and a window was smashed.
Aside from contacting your federal and state officials, local law enforcement and the ADL have to know about this, to keep their records straight. Moreover, that Jews — who have been the victims of the most assaults against a religious group in the United States for years now — have got to demand that our community receives basic Constitutional protections, as other minority groups have been receiving under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.
