If your first thought about wild salmon is “delicious,” your next might be the image of big silver fish netted out at sea. But according to celebrated British Columbia chef Rob Clark, that idea misses the boat. For conservation-minded chefs like him, choosing salmon caught in rivers means that diners can know exactly what run they're eating, without sacrificing flavor . "My goal now is to help every river product earn the respect it deserves,” says Clark. Here’s why he loves Harrison River beach-seined keta (chum) salmon.

HOME WATERS: MEET BOARD MEMBER DR. ANDREA REID
For WSC board member Dr. Andrea Reid, river ecology is a personal calling, one that’s taken her across the world . Now, Dr. Reid, a citizen of the Nisga’a First Nation, is reconnecting with her own home waters, following a move west from Ottawa to guide the University of British Columbia's new Centre for Indigenous Fisheries. Dr. Reid shares more about her family roots, her research philosophy, and how her team is applying a Māori concept to assessing B.C. salmon habitat.

A NEW GUIDE TO FLY FISHING'S LAST FRONTIER
For more than 20 years, Dr. Mikhail Skopets has fly fished alongside WSC President Guido Rahr in some of the least known and most promising salmon, trout, taimen, and char rivers on earth: the rivers of the Russian Far East. Now Dr. Skopets has published a rare new English-language guide to the region for anglers. "There is no living human who knows this vast and pristine landscape better," says Rahr. "With this book, Dr. Skopets has opened fly fishing's last frontier."
