Dear Supporter,
Yesterday, Many House Republicans -- backed by their own leadership -- opposed legislation to create a bipartisan commission to investigate the January 6th insurrectionist attack on the Capitol.
The events of January 6th were a direct attack on our American democracy. It was a violent attempt to overthrow an American election. A failed coup that must never be forgotten, ignored, or excused.

The perpetrators of this attack are exactly the ones I’ve been warning about since I published my book Guns, Democracy, and the Insurrectionist Idea more than a decade ago. A heavily armed citizenry that act on the unpatriotic belief that armed violence is an acceptable part of the political process. That insurrectionist idea has unfortunately now become our reality. The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence has been at the vanguard of countering this threat and combating the deadly ideology of insurrectionism. In the aftermath of this attack, we called on Congress to form a “9/11 style commission” to investigate this attack. And 175 Republicans have now opposed that.

What are they hiding?

Why is the Republican party so afraid of learning everything there is to know about this attack on the United States? Is it because their supporters are the ones who attacked us? Because they still want the votes of these domestic terrorists? Because members of Congress themselves aided and supported the attack?

At the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, we are committed to exposing this dangerous insurrectionist ideology that has become dominant in the gun movement. But we need your help to stand up against the insurrectionist ideals of the NRA and the gun lobby.
