The last few years have shown us all the danger of ignorance and hatred, especially when it’s weaponized for political gain.
That’s why I was honored to help manage the House passage of the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act this week and send it to the desk of President Biden.
Hate crimes against Asian Americans have spiked since the beginning of the virus, with overall hate crimes in New York City rising a staggering 73% year after year — and since these crimes are often underreported, it could be significantly higher.
Add your name to stand with me to support this critical legislation to address rising hate crimes and send a message that hatred has no place in our society! [[link removed]]ADD YOUR NAME [[link removed]]
Hate crimes are not only increasing in volume, but they are also becoming more violent. Not by accident, this occurred at the same time divisive figures like disgraced President Trump escalated the exploitation of hate and misinformation for his own gain.
At the end of March, I mourned with community leaders here in NYC after a man attacked and repeatedly stomped on a 65-year-old Filipino woman while screaming racial slurs. Tragically, events like this are increasing across the country.
Our neighbors deserve far better than blind hatred. Hate is not who we are, and I’m committed to doing everything in my power to fight back to ensure that everyone can live without the fear of sudden violence.
Stand against hate by signing here if you support the COVID-19 Hate Crimes Act. [[link removed]]
