Hi Hi John,,

Did you see it? Boris Johnson managed to bury the news that British government negotiators were trying to promote unsustainable fishing, despite their promises to support ocean protection. [1]

Instead, he made sure all we heard about was battleships and Brexit, covering up the fact that local fishing communities feel totally betrayed by the government. [2]

We cannot let Boris go back on his promise to nurture a sustainable fishing industry, protecting our seas and building back better for coastal communities. [3] Sending gunboats will not distract us from getting ocean protection done properly.

Already 430,000 people have signed the petition to ban destructive supertrawlers and bottom trawlers from fishing in our Marine Protected Areas. Will you join them?

Properly protecting Marine Protected Areas benefits everyone - nature and people. [4] But allowing bottom trawlers to fish there, is like dragging a bulldozer through the rainforest, they destroy everything in their wake. Whilst supertrawlers hoover up hundreds of tonnes of fish in one go, which is not surprising since about twelve jumbo jets could fit in one net. [5]

We live on a blue planet, we can’t let industrial fishing keep depleting our oceans until there’s nothing left.

There’s only a few weeks to go until World Oceans Day and we’re aiming to reach half a million signatures on the day. To send a strong message that the Prime Minister can’t ignore, ahead of hosting world leaders for the G7 summit, just a few days later.

We noticed that you haven’t signed the petition yet, but there’s still time.

Thank you for all that you do,

Bryony, Fi, Chris and everyone at Greenpeace
