Years of the Trump administration packing the federal courts with unqualified, radical judges might soon give anti-choice advocates exactly what they want.

The Supreme Court just agreed to hear a major new abortion rights case from Mississippi. The lawsuit focuses on a ban on abortions in the state after just 15 weeks of pregancy.

Conservatives have been fighting this battle since Roe v. Wade was decided in 1973. Fortunately, the rule of law and the Constitution have held strong so far, but Trump's packing of the courts could soon change that.

With the three Trump appointees on the Supreme Court -- Justices Coney Barrett, Kavanaugh, and Gorsuch -- it's likely that this assault on a woman's right to choose could succeed in the short term. And worse, abortion rights advocates say that this is one of the final steps in the radical right's plan to overturn Roe v. Wade once and for all.

But there is still hope to ensure that every person who needs access to an abortion can get one safely and legally. President Biden has said that he wants to pass a bill through Congress that would enshrine the right to an abortion granted by Roe v. Wade into law during his first term in office. That hope hinges on expanding Democratic congressional majorities in 2022.
