Friend,

It was just announced that the Supreme Court will hear arguments that challenge the heart of Roe v. Wade and may end legal, safe abortion in the U.S.

The case in question is Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization , a case over a 2018 Mississippi law that banned abortions after just 15 weeks of pregnancy, with no exceptions for rape or incest.

Abortion bans like this one have increasingly been introduced in the wake of Justices Brett Kavanaugh’s and Amy Coney Barrett’s judicial confirmations as part of a deliberate legal strategy to give the Supreme Court a chance to directly reconsider Roe .

And finally, that moment has come.

If you agree that women should continue to have the right to choose under the settled law that is Roe v. Wade, add your name to mine to demand that members of Congress step up to protect it. [[link removed]]

The fact that the Supreme Court agreed to take this case is a clear sign that at least four of the nine justices—the minimum needed to agree to hear a case—are ready to revisit Roe .

With the Supreme Court’s 6-3 conservative majority, it was only a matter of time before they agreed to challenge Roe .

We cannot overstate how critical this is. If they strike this key protection, abortion will likely be outlawed in dozens of states, doctors will be criminalized, and women will be punished—not a question of if, but when.

We must stand up for the right to choose. Add your name to mine to help send the message that abortion should be safe, legal, and accessible. [[link removed]]

Abortion access has already been chipped away for decades, leaving it legal in theory, but inaccessible for many. Anti-abortion advocates have spent years deconstructing Roe through state legislation—requiring patients to spend hours—sometimes days—before they can have the procedure or are given medical disinformation meant to deter, among a myriad of other obstacles.

We can't let our rights be taken away.

Sincerely,

Madeleine
