Washington Gas Teamsters ‘Blow the Whistle’ on corporate greed Washington Gas workers will rally and literally “Blow the Whistle Against Corporate Greed” at company facilities this morning 6a to 7a (see Calendar). Hundreds of whistles are being provided to the protesting Teamsters for these actions. The contract covering 600 union employees at Washington Gas -- owned by AltaGas, a Canadian corporation -- expires on May 31. Teamsters Local 96 has scheduled a strike authorization vote for next week. “Washington Gas workers have worked throughout the COVID pandemic at risk to ourselves and our families. We are essential workers, and we will not allow the company to treat us like we’re disposable,” said Washington Gas worker and Local 96 Teamster President Wilder Reed. ![]() DC Essential Workers Bill of Rights video/petition ![]() Solidarity Center Report: Police in Lesotho Fire on Garment Worker Rally Police shot 12 garment workers and two children in Lesotho after workers staged a rally for wages and benefits they have not received, according to union leaders, who say police chased and beat workers in villages as they broke up the march.
