The American Rescue Plan

How is it helping folks?

88% of children covered by monthly payments starting in July

KKTV

The Treasury Department says 39 million families are set to receive monthly child payments beginning on July 15. The payments are part of President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion coronavirus relief package.

The law expanded the child tax credit for one year and made it possible to pre-pay the benefits on a monthly basis. Nearly 88% of children are set to receive the benefits without their parents needing to take any additional action.

Qualified families will receive a payment of up to $300 per month for each child under 6 and up to $250 per month for children between the ages of 6 and 17. The child tax credit was previously capped at $2,000.

Remember -- Colorado Republicans like Lauren Boebert, Ken Buck, and Doug Lamborn all voted 'No' to helping struggling Colorado families.

Meanwhile, all of Colorado's Democratic members of the Congressional delegation voted 'Yes'!

But how else does the American Rescue Plan specifically help Coloradans, you ask? Click the link to find out!

Support for Democratic School Board Candidates

Image

As an initiative, Democratic Education Initiative of the Colorado Democratic Party (CoDEI) has played a leadership role in the examination and discussion of important education policy issues for twenty years! We also serve as a resource for candidates running for education positions or on education issues.

The CoDEI is asking all county party chairs and members of the State Central Committee to help us identify Democrats who are running for school boards this year.  The CoDEI is happy to advise, coach, and support these candidates.  The sooner we know who is running – or who is thinking of running – the sooner we can be of assistance.  Additionally, each odd-numbered year, the CoDEI holds an event in late August to give Democratic candidates for school boards around the state an opportunity to speak to fellow Democrats.

Please email us at [email protected] with names and contact information of any Democrat you know is a candidate or is contemplating becoming one for their local school board.

Opinion: This year brings a fresh chance to protect special lands across the West

Colorado Sun

In February, the House of Representatives passed the Protecting America’s Wilderness and Public Lands Act, a package of bills which would protect special lands across the West, including just over 2 million acres here in Colorado via two bills: The Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy (CORE) Act and the Colorado Wilderness Act.

U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette’s Colorado Wilderness Act would designate 660,000 acres of wilderness, mostly on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands in western Colorado. Different versions of her bill have been introduced since the late 1990s, but were unsuccessful. The CWA has not been endorsed or introduced by either Colorado senator and its path through the Senate remains unclear.

SPEAKER BOEBERT? 1st Term Congresswoman Already Eyeing Promotion?

Colorado Dems

Continuing her pattern of dodging local press and sticking with far-right media outlets, Congresswoman Lauren Boebert joined Newsmax for an interview yesterday and made another round of interesting comments. At the end of the interview though, the first-term Congresswoman casually mentioned her future ambitions unprompted:

“But, you know, maybe one day when I’m Speaker of the House, my first action will be to take those metal detectors and use them as target practice.”
