Dear Supporter,
TAKE ACTION NOW TO CHALLENGE THE HOME OFFICE'S FLAWED AND UNBALANCED REVIEW OF ABORTION CLINIC PROTESTS
As you will remember, following a Home Office review of anti-abortion protests, which included a public consultation, the-then Home Secretary Sajid Javid announced in September 2018 that the government would not take any action on this issue.
However, FOI documents released today raise serious concerns about this review - and suggest that the evidence report provided to the Home Secretary was deeply flawed.
Please email your MP now to ask the Home Secretary to reconsider the case for abortion clinic buffer zones in light of the release of these shocking documents.
Women's experiences were underplayed, evidence from medical bodies was omitted, and claims by anti-abortion protesters were not challenged.
Moreover, it appears the consultation was a foregone conclusion.
In the minutes from a workshop to consider the evidence for buffer zones, a civil servant is recorded as stating “there is a need to be seen to do something but don’t actually want to do something.”
A coalition of charities, women's rights organisations, and medical bodies have today written to the current Home Secretary, Priti Patel MP, asking that the evidence is reviewed as a matter of urgency.
Please take one minute to email your MP to ask that they put pressure on the Home Secretary to look again at the case for abortion clinic buffer zones. Over 30 clinics have experienced protests in the last year alone - this cannot be allowed to continue.
Thank you again for your support. We will be in touch as soon as possible with an update.
Best wishes,
bpas, on behalf of the Back Off coalition
