What happened on January 6 wasn't just an attack on our Capitol, it was an attack on our democracy. While the House and Senate met to observe the counting of electoral ballots, supporters of Donald Trump stormed the Capitol to stop us, leaving seven people dead, hundreds of police officers injured, and causing millions of dollars of damage.
We need an independent commission to investigate the events of that day. Tonight, the House passed a resolution to do just that.
Sadly, most Republicans opposed this commonsense resolution, and Republicans in the Senate are promising to block it. Donald Trump has ordered them to stop an investigation because it will show his own culpability for the attack.
This is too important to let Mitch McConnell block it in the Senate. Will you join me in calling on the Senate to pass the House bill and create an independent commission to investigate the January 6 attack?
