During a recent hearing before the House Oversight and Reform Committee, Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar unapologetically defended the insurrectionists who stormed the Capitol on January 6.
According to Gosar, the neo-Nazis and white supremacists who beat police officers and brought zip ties to the Capitol were “peaceful patriots” who are now being “harassed” by the Department of Justice.
Gosar went as far as dismissing the death of a Capitol police officer who ran into harm's way to protect lawmakers. Gosar interrupted DOJ testimony to say the officer died of “natural causes.”
The GOP is trying to wash its hands of the Capitol insurrection, that much is clear. In the process, they're telling white supremacists, neo-Nazis, and right-wing extremists that they can attack our democracy without consequence.
We need your help to hold Gosar and the rest of the insurrectionists in Congress accountable for betraying our democracy and the American people. If we start organizing now, with your help, we can unseat Gosar and replace him with a bold progressive who'll make sure white supremacists no longer feel protected in Washington.
Defeating a Trumpian incumbent like Gosar won't be easy. We'll need to keep up with the GOP's dark money machine, and we're already lagging behind. But we can't stand by while Gosar uses his post to encourage more violence, especially not when we have a powerful network of allies to help.
